A R Rahman's Nenje Ezhu: A Musical Extravaganza for a Noble Cause




A R Rahman, the Oscar-winning music composer and singer, performed a series of live concerts in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in 2016, titled Nenje Ezhu (Heart, Rise Up). The concerts were dedicated to the flood victims of Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, and aimed to raise funds for their relief and rehabilitation. The concerts featured some of the most popular songs of Rahman, sung by him and other renowned singers from the Tamil film industry.


The first concert was held in Chennai on January 16, 2016, at the YMCA Grounds. It was attended by over 25,000 people, who enjoyed the musical feast for over four hours. Rahman sang some of his classic hits like Uyire Uyire, Dil Se Re, Jai Ho, Vande Mataram, and Nenje Ezhu. He also performed some of his recent songs like Thalli Pogathey, Mental Manadhil, and Aye Sinamika. He was joined by singers like Srinivas, Karthik, Haricharan, Shweta Mohan, Neeti Mohan, Shakthisree Gopalan, and others. The concert also featured a tribute to the late legendary singer M S Viswanathan, who had passed away in 2015.


The second concert was held in Coimbatore on January 23, 2016, at the Codissia Grounds. It was a similar musical extravaganza, with Rahman and his troupe performing some of his best songs from various genres and languages. The concert also had a special appearance by actor Suriya, who joined Rahman on stage to sing a song from his upcoming film 24.

The third concert was held in Madurai on February 14, 2016, at the Tamukkam Grounds. It was a Valentine's Day special show, with Rahman and his team singing some of his romantic songs like Roja Roja, Pudhu Vellai Mazhai, Enna Solla Pogirai, and Hosanna. The concert also had a surprise guest in actor Vijay Sethupathi, who came on stage to express his admiration for Rahman and his music.


The fourth and final concert was held in Kochi on February 27, 2016, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It was the first time that Rahman performed a live concert in Kerala, and he received a warm welcome from the Malayali audience. He sang some of his Malayalam songs like Jiya Jale, Kannodu Kanbathellam, and Khalbilethi. He also sang some of his Tamil and Hindi songs like Chinna Chinna Aasai, Humma Humma, Kun Faya Kun, and Tum Tak. He was accompanied by singers like Benny Dayal, Vijay Prakash, Alphons Joseph, Harini, Shweta Pandit, and others.


All the concerts were recorded and telecasted by Jaya TV in high definition quality.
